Furniture Manufacturer Chooses Pacer CNC Router
|

At their workshops
in the heart of Nottingham, Edwin Loxley produce some of
Britain’s finest kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and home study
furniture. Working with a range of beautiful natural
timbers, their team of highly skilled craftsmen will design
and manufacture unique, bespoke furniture for the most
discerning of customers.
Until recently, all production was by
hand which although giving beautiful results, was causing
longer lead times than desired and limited some of the
designs that could be produced. |

Market trends were
such that more and more curved units needed to be produced
and Edwin Loxley needed a machine to allow them to offer a
more flexible and wider range of products to their
customers. Curved panels need to be manufactured to a high
level of accuracy and doing this by hand can be very time
consuming. A decision was taken to purchase a CNC router
with the objectives of reducing lead times, increasing
precision of manufacture and being able to offer this wider
choice of product design.

John Powles, Edwin Loxley’s Head of
Production, looked at a wide selection of 3 axis CNC routers
and finally decided on the HDS series from Pacer Systems.
John said “the main reason we chose the Pacer was that we
felt it offered strength, speed, accuracy and ease of use
all at a very reasonable price. Ease of use was critical for
us as we are not computer programmers and don’t have time to
learn complex systems. The Pacer control software is really
easy to operate and even our occasional users have no
problems at all using it when required”. Another reason
for purchasing the router was to help in the production of
3D carved designs. The Pacer HDS series machine controller
is optimised for 3D machining and can produce complex
designs time after time, very fast and with little operator
involvement. |

The HDS series
machines are Pacer’s high end routers designed for
continuous high speed operation in all plastics and
woodworking applications. They offer 20m/min servo driven
performance using twin ballscrew drives and have a unique
self squaring feature. A zoned high vacuum bed, automatic
tool length calibration and remote E-Support are all
standard features on this highly specified machine.
