Cutters for Metals
Single fluted, solid carbide These cutters are designed to be used on aluminiums and other non-ferrous metals where their very sharp edge and single flute geometry helps to minimise swarf build up and clogging. The geometry is different to that of the single flute cutter for plastics. The spiral flute ensures that swarf is thrown away from the cutting edge to leave a clean finish. A small amount of lubricant will help the cutting process.
TiALN coated two spiral flutes These cutters are specially coated to give them the strength and durability required for cutting metals. They can be used on steels, both mild and stainless, and also on aluminium, brass and copper. They are made from solid micrograin carbide and carefully ground to give fine, burr-free cut finish. Coolant should be used, especially when cutting steels with these cutters.
Single fluted, high speed steel These cutters are designed to be used on the softer aluminiums where their very sharp edge and single flute geometry helps to minimise swarf build up and clogging. A small amount of lubricant will help the cutting process.
Single spiral flute, downward cut These cutters are designed for routing thinner materials, eg: less than 1-2mm which may be lifted from the machine bed by the upward flutes of conventional cutters resulting in a ragged edge finish. The downward spiral flutes tend to push the material down into the machine bed to ensure stability and a good cut quality. Not recommended for thicker materials as the swarf will be pushed down into the cut and not cleared.
